Meet Our Fellows
With the help of our very generous supporters we are currently funding four on-going annual fellowships with staggered start dates throughout the calendar year. This has greatly improved the training and collaboration within the fellowship program. In October 2008 Emily joined Josh Cares. Emily is a graduate of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana with a BS degree in Youth, Adult, and Family Services. Emily completed her 600 hour Internship at Riley Hospital for Children at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis and became a Certified Child Life Specialist in May 2009.
In March 2009 Whitney and Becky began their Josh Cares Fellowships.
Whitney is a recent graduate of Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana with a BS degree in Psychology and Sociology. Of note, Whitney is a Cincinnati native and heard about Josh Cares from Lauren (one our first fellows) while completing her Internship at Johns Hopkins Medical Center. Whitney spends all of her time in the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit and she is a Certified Infant Massage Instructor.
Becky is a recent graduate of University of Iowa in Iowa City, with a BS degree in Leisure Studies with an Emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation. She completed her 500 hour internship at the University of Iowa Children's Hospital in Iowa City. Becky became a Certified Child Life Specialist in November of 2008.
Leah joined the Josh Cares team in July 2009. She is a recent graduate of Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri with a BS degree in Child and Family Development. Leah first heard of the Josh Cares Fellowship Program in 2007 while attending the Mid-West Child life Conference. She also completed her internship at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. Leah became a Certified Child Life Specialist in May 2009.
Our Alumni
Our first two fellows completed their fellowships in June 2006. At that time, Jenny joined Cincinnati Children's as a full-time Child Life Specialist and Lauren began her career as a Child Life Specialist at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.
Since then we have had another ten fellows come to Cincinnati Children's and then move on to permanent careers as Child Life Specialists. To date, half of our Josh Cares fellows have taken full-time permanent positions in the Division of Child Life at Cincinnati Children's upon completion of their year with us.
