Our Inspiration

JoshJosh Helfrich was a vibrant, compassionate, selfless ten-year-old whose life was cut short by a terrible accident. Throughout his short life he was well known for his natural empathy and gift for compassion. He loved without reservation or selfishness, and sought opportunities to serve others at home, church and school. Wherever he went, he took delight in offering a helping hand to strangers.

Even in death he continued to serve others. After a fatal head injury, his parents honored him by donating his organs. An otherwise healthy child with no other physical trauma, he became a miracle to many anxious families awaiting transplants. Josh’s parents knew that was what Josh would have wanted.

Josh left behind a twin sister, devoted parents, and a very close extended family of relatives and friends. As they were dealing with their horrible grief, they took comfort from the fact that Josh knew that he was loved and cherished every day of his life. With all the grief in their hearts, they found room to feel compassion for other children who – for whatever reason – were feeling alone when they needed attention the most.

If Josh were alive, he would help fill in their lonely hours - making them laugh, playing games with them, telling them stories, listening to them, letting them know that someone is there to care.

Let’s keep Josh’s spirit alive and give these patients a chance to heal both physically and emotionally.
